GILBERT ALBERT

Born in 1930 in Geneva, Gilbert Albert has jostled and revolutionized the art of jewellery, accumulating honours and recompenses in different parts of the world since the age of 25.

Honors have made his fame and among other things, he has won the Diamonds International Award ten times; yet it is his exhibitions all over the world, through which visitors have been able to become acquainted with his highly original jewelry- overflowing with inventiveness and bold ideas - that have established him as a worthy successor to the greatest jewelry designers.

His work has also been auctioned by Christies and Sotheby’s among the most prestigious masters on several occasions.

Among those contemporary artists who have chosen jewelry as a means of artistic expression, Gilbert Albert is a note-worthy exception. In contrast to so many others who use only metals and stones universally acknowledged as ‘’precious’’, the incomparable talent of the Genevan jeweler manages to use a vast range of minerals usually ignored by many. Furthermore, the very widest variety of organic materials of natural origin, treated by processes of which he alone holds the secret, have acquired in his hands a bewitching intensity of colour and shimmering light. With a visionary’s sentiments for gems and as an impassioned lover of nature, Gilbert Albert transforms the beauties of creation, which we might ignore during our daily lives, into royal finery.

Gilbert Albert creates jewelry pieces from sudden inspirations and perfect dreams. A special attribute must be made to his famous rings, earrings and the pendants with interchangeable stones, marble shaped, all modest but beautiful to look at and which can be worn to match all types of garments, a whole collection of jewels blended into one. A total triumph that will never find a challenge.

He combines gold and precious stones with a variety of natural materials including crystals, meteorites, corals, shells, scarabs and, most inspiring of all, fossilized dinosaur bones. He also uses fulgurites, which are tubes of glass formed by the extraordinary release of energy when lightning strikes the desert sand. Most of Gilbert Albert Jewelry pieces are unique sets. He believes human beings as individuals are unique with their fingerprints and their DNA, and incidentally they deserve to be recognized through their character by giving them their own individual and unique appearance. His work is a synergy between his own art and that of nature.

Gilbert Albert believes that choosing nature as the main inspiration is not coincidental to the trends of fashion; it is first and foremost because he enjoys doing it. It is like going beyond seeing the value of a piece of jewelry solely in term of the weight of the gold or diamonds it contains. Enhancing the value of a jewel calls for more than a pair of scales; it requires talent.

His art jewels have been exhibited in Prague, Paris, New York, London, Johannesburg, Antwerp, Brussels, Copenhagen, Tokyo, Osaka, Milan, Salzburg, Vienna, Sapporo, Sao Paulo and Lisbon. He was the first living artist since 1917 who was invited to show his creations in Kremlin, Moscow.

Gilbert Albert showrooms are extraordinary places that every admirer of fine arts certainly should not miss.

Gilbert Albert's  first showroom in the Middle East has opened  in prestigious boulevard of Emirates Towers-Dubai in October 2007.
